Great post. I actually like this early versioon better than the revised version you crafted laterr.

I totally agree with the above comment that this is why travel is such a great way to have an authentic experience. When you go somewhere foreign to you - a different country, or perhaps into nature - you "die" to your old life for a bit and are reborn into a new experience.

If you haven't already, check out Our lives are not what we think. I go into this same concept more deeply.

About sports, I agree completely. Sports is one of the most positive and valuable institutions in any society.

Gah! This is such a brilliant article .Probably one of your best . I am surprised I didn't read this before.
This exercise of 'dropping in' is so simple yet profound . It is such an easy way to be immersed in the present moment. I also feel free of this self created burden of my mind and past even for a short period of time.

Experience outranks thoughts - I must remember this. By the way , isn't sports a wonderful to do this .During a game , I find myself completely experiencing the present moment without unnecessary thinking.

Hi Lorra. The reason it doesn't have many comments is because it was published when Raptitude was only three days old. It was completely unknown at the time. The only readers were Nadia (the first commenter above), myself, and my mother.

I still think it's an amazing idea but I'm not entirely happy with how I described it here. I will write about it again in the near future.

I'm surprised this post doesn't have more comments - it is poignant! Beautifully written, it touched my heart. I'm pretty sure I won't forget this simple switch of thinking, either. Thank you for introducing it to me.

It's good to hear somebody say that. This is a very old article (my second ever) and it is still one of my favorites. I don't think the idea ever got the attention it was due :) If you can look at the world like it's brand new, you will lead an extremely beautiful and joyful life Brian. Enjoy.

Hi David,

I feel very strange coming across this blog. There are a number of posts that you have here which seem to describe my experiences and my problems and my perceptions perfectly; though I imagine that is supposed to be the point to an extent. This post especially drew me in because I have just been recently thinking in much the same way that you describe here. I imagine I'm seeing everything for the first time, and that I've just been dropped into my life at some arbitrary moment. It's "fresh" to say the least. You went into what I've been feeling in great detail and have helped me put into words what it is I've been experiencing. Great website you have here. Excellent post.
