It's good to hear somebody say that. This is a very old article (my second ever) and it is still one of my favorites. I don't think the idea ever got the attention it was due :) If you can look at the world like it's brand new, you will lead an extremely beautiful and joyful life Brian. Enjoy.

Hi David,

I feel very strange coming across this blog. There are a number of posts that you have here which seem to describe my experiences and my problems and my perceptions perfectly; though I imagine that is supposed to be the point to an extent. This post especially drew me in because I have just been recently thinking in much the same way that you describe here. I imagine I'm seeing everything for the first time, and that I've just been dropped into my life at some arbitrary moment. It's "fresh" to say the least. You went into what I've been feeling in great detail and have helped me put into words what it is I've been experiencing. Great website you have here. Excellent post.

David,

What you've said here about experiences slightly reminds me of Linda Barry's graphic novel "What It Is." It's really quite a work of art, and if I remember correctly there's a small part where she poses questions about memories etc and real experiences.
Once again, good points you've brought up

Hi Nadia,

Welcome to Raptitude.

I've been 'dropping in' more and more; it's become a habit now. Especially in moments that feel boring, suddenly I'm hit with a whole bouquet of things to be grateful for. The simple components especially: color, warmth, breezes, words. Works anytime.

Have a great day too.

Hi David,

I saw your comment on another blog and discovered you have a blog so here I am. What a great post.

I loved the phrase "experiences outrank thoughts" because I have found that to be true. I think that is why people look forward to going on vacation because it is a new experience. But everyday is a new experience, with the right frame of mind.

And the whole "dropping into a moment" was a great description too because sometimes we are so consumed with our thoughts, we are not in the moment but once we focus on the moment, everything sort of clears up.

Thank you for great reading material as I eat my breakfast! Have a great day!
