Wi-Fi Woes

Apologies for the inconsistent posting recently. I’ve been living in a bamboo hut on a secluded beach on Ko Lanta, where wi-fi is scarce and exclusive, and even the land connections are unreliable. For me to use the internet I have to take a sweaty half-mile hike down the beach, and the terminal may be in use when I get there. Just now I made the trip, and planned on uploading an article from my trusty USB stick, but this computer doesn’t recognize my file type and the whole OS is in Thai.

Oh well. I do continue to write and will post as soon as the situation allows me to. Shouldn’t be long, I’m headed to beautiful Ko Phi Phi today, maybe I can snag some Wi-Fi time there.

Well, I definitely know what that’s like. Not that I’m living in a bamboo hut, but I’m living in a post soviet country that has fallen behind the rest of the world. Powercuts are frequent and sometimes last for a whole day or even more. If I don’t have something important to do which requires electricity (such as posting on my blog), it is quite refreshing… but otherwise, it’s a bit frustrating.

Anyway, nice blog (I’ve recently started reading it) and have fun on the remainder of your stay in Thailand.

Don’t let this little hurdle bother you too much. Take your time. Good things are always worth waiting. I’ve been enjoying your amazing articles and re-reading them gives me new insights every time. I’m too lazy to send you my appreciation after each reading so now I sum it altogether with a big ‘THANK YOU!’

OK David you’re not getting ANY sympathy from me when you open with: ” I’ve been living in a bamboo hut on a secluded beach on Ko Lanta,” and also include: ” For me to use the internet I have to take a sweaty half-mile hike down the beach,” Need I remind you: Prairies – approaching winter … nuff said :)

I sincerely hope you’re having a fabulous epic journey so far and like Mat said good things are always worth waiting for! We’ll all be here when you get back into the groove. Enjoy!

Seriously! That’s what I was thinking, Sherri! “Aw… poor David… living in a bamboo hut on a beautiful, secluded beach, miles away from ordinary life!”

I’m so jealous, it’s not even funny! :)

Haha, ok, it’s not so bad.

Like I’ve said before, I just hate the thought of my beloved readership getting impatient with me and moving on. Sometimes I just curl up with my pina colada on the white, floury sand and cry at my misfortune.

I just wanted to clarify things, that’s all :)

You’re breaking my heart. ;)

This post was awesome – in just a few seconds you took me to your hut and your beach in my mind. Thanks for that.

Enjoy, and thank you for sharing!

In Colorado I will walk a mile on my lunch hour today. But at 50 degrees with the wind blowing a snow storm in this afternoon, it won’t be a sweaty mile.

Sounds like you are having fun. You should have plenty of blog photos and material for some time to come. Take care.

I look forward to the stories, but take your time and enjoy the journey. (probably needless advices as I’m sure you are doing just that) It sounds like a wonderful experience.

Hi David,

No worries on the lack of posts. Just glad to know that you are doing well and having fun.

Isn’t bamboo hut living on the beach so much fun? Enjoy the view and the food for all of us! Take care! :)

David November 13, 2009 at 10:21 pm

Oh the food is so consistently awesome… I am going to miss it when I go.

Hi David – I’m with the rest of the group; not a problem that you’re not posting. I kept checking in just in case, and then I said to myself, “well he’s on his grand adventure and who has time for a blog during that?” So enjoy your time away. I’m looking forward to the stories you’re accumulating – bet they’re good ones!

Thanks everyone, good to see you’re still here.

Zengirl: Posting more than a few pictures on David Goes Kiwi has been a huge pain because of technical problems, but I’m about to post some pictures on my facebook.

Anyone who wants to see them can go to facebook.com/david.cain and make a friend request, just put “Raptitude” in the request somewhere.

Zengirl November 17, 2009 at 6:59 pm

David,

I will try to check it out there, although I am still avoiding to be on facebook, myface, twitter and what not, part lazy, part simplicity, who knows, maybe more laziness. :-)
